About

Hi! My name is Amber, and I started this blog because I talk too much. I’m a Toronto girl who works in telecommunications by day and devours pop culture by night.  I started this blog in the Spring of 2012 as a way to unwind after spending the day in Corporate World. You can read the whole story here.

ingrid bInspired by the wise words of Ingrid Bergman – “A kiss is a lovely trick, designed to stop speech when words become superfluous” – Words Become Superfluous is a place to collect the sights, sounds, and words that stop speech for me. I also write about my talented photographer sister, my imaginary boyfriends, and what’s been on my tv screen lately.

(I should pause for a moment here to mention that one of these imaginary boyfriends is, in fact, a very funny and talented real-life writer who hosts a blog along with a couple of other very funny and talented boys. And they very kindly let me call their blog my online home away from home once in a while. And don’t ask me how I got away with that one, because I haven’t figured it out either).

To share your thoughts with me, you can click on any of the Contact icons over there  on the right, or of course, say hi in the Comments. I can’t wait to hear from you!

  1. Never heard what Ingrid B said about a kiss but as in so many other things she was right. Here’s looking at you, kid.

  3. Thanks for the likings over at my humble new blog. They almost give me the illusion that I know what I’m doing. Almost.

It’s a beautiful site here. Nice work.

    • Aww, thank you Jayde-Ashe! That’s so sweet of you! (Teeheehee – see what I did there? 🙂 ) I’ll have to plan something special to acknowledge this … stay tuned … )

  4. I’ve never liked your About page. Shocked 😮 and must change that. Now I’m off to find your first post… Interesting you knew of BoFN even back when you started. OR have you rewritten About since you started? Curious about timeline. I first heard from Dave last summer, I think, then started reading soon after that. You were already close personal friends with these guys by then though, yes?

    • Now you’ve got me thinking … have I liked your about page? I will have to check that out!

I updated the page to include the BoFN mention, but I only started reading their blog last spring. I didn’t really start bonding with the boys until the summer, though 🙂

  5. A magnificent introduction! I love this place already. And how kind it was of you to compliment my blog title when yours is laden with uber amounts of genius! I love it. Looking forward to keeping up with all your posts. 😀

    • Thank you so much!! It’s a bit of an unwieldy title, so I’m glad you like it. I think it suits the place, but then again, I’m a bit unwieldy myself 😉 I’m so happy that you’ll be visiting!

      • I think it suits the place and yourself and your style just fine. All a very good thing! I like unwieldy as much as the next person. Moreso, probably. I think it can carry with it a certain charisma, that you and your blog certainly have. 🙂

    • Oh my goodness – I’m speechless. And you know me – that never happens !!

Seriously, my friend, thank you. The fact that someone with your talent considers me a mentor of any sort is beyond. I can’t even. You just made my night !!!

    • Thank you Eric! I’m so glad the quote resonated with you, too – it certainly did for me. I’m happy that you’re here and I’ll do my best to keep things entertaining for you (imaginary and otherwise) 🙂

  6. Good advice provided he gets the right message from the __’s mouth:P I think of those movie moments when the one partner can’t stop talking and the other grabs them, pulls them close and plants one on their lips to shut them up. So romantic:P hehe I’d like to think a kiss might speak better than words that won’t come sometimes. But, I realize how important verbal communication is…speaking one’s true feelings and being able to endure both the giving and receiving good and bad. It’s everyone’s challenge.

    • I’m not sure how I missed this comment earlier, WritingBolt, especially since I agree with it so completely! I like the movie moment of shutting someone up by kissing them very much as well. Romantic, indeed. And eloquent, too, if you can’t find the words you want to express your feelings. 😉

    • Why thank you very much! I’m all sorts of flattered at being your first choice, considering the amazing company you keep over on your blog. I’ll have to come up with an appropriate acceptance speech … oh, this is going to be fun. xoox

  8. Hi Amber 🙂 Love your humor. I’ve been reading your posts and you have such a lovely sense of humor. I’d love to read more and be friends. Have a great day!

    • Hi Rishika! Thank you so much! What a nice thing to say 🙂 I’m so glad that you’ve found my little corner of the internet and that you’re planning to stay a while. Of course we can be friends! Looking forward to checking out your blog as well 🙂

      • Ah I’m very new on wordpress so I’m still working my way through this, but yes I do hope you’ll enjoy my blog 🙂
It will be great fun to get to know you, I’m sure 😀

    • Hi Christy! Lovely to meet you. I may not bat my virtual eyelashes at you the way I do at EJ, but I’m happy we’ve connected regardless 😉 Looking forward to checking out your blog as well!
